Flag of USA (51 stars)

The flag of the United States of America is arguably the most recognizable in the entire globe. Depending on your point of view, it represents either your country or the face of everything that is wrong with the entire world. As a result, many Muscovites were more than happy to comply when indignant shop owners in Moscow began using the flag as a doormat last month in protest of American sanctions against Russia.
Given the ongoing anti-American sentiment in Russia, they might soon require more doormats. But will the real American flag soon require more stars?
The 50 stars on the American flag, as is well known, stand in for the individual states. There were 13 states (then colonies) when the Stars and Stripes was created in 1777, making it a 13-star flag. As new states were admitted to the union, stars were added to the flag. On July Fourth, 1960, the present 50-star flag, which recognizes Hawaii’s entry, was unveiled.
Future designs for the upgraded flag have already been put forth, should the creation of a 51st state become a reality.
The first is comparable to the current [6-5-6-5-6-5-6] falling rows of stars. Rows of stars would descend in the 51-star version as follows: 9-8-9-8-9-8.
The row pattern has been changed in a second draft of the 51-star flag to: 6-7-8-9-8-7-6.
The 51-star flag that the pro-statehood New Progressive Party of Puerto Rico has created features the stars arranged in a circle. One is in the center, followed by five around it, ten around them, fifteen around them, and twenty on the outer ring.
Puerto Rico held a status referendum on its current relationship with America on the same day as the 2012 presidential election in the United States. Sixty-one percent of voters preferred U.S. statehood as an alternative to Puerto Rico’s current territorial status (54% said it shouldn’t be maintained).
Since the Spanish-American War in 1898, Puerto Rico has been an unincorporated U.S. territory, and its residents received citizenship in the United States in 1917. But unless they reside in the United States, which also governs the island’s foreign affairs, Puerto Ricans are unable to cast presidential ballots.
Puerto Rico’s statehood referendum received $2.5 million from President Obama in January of last year.
In the United States, there is a movement to make Washington, D.C., a state as well.
Plans for a 51-star flag, a 52-star flag, a 53-star flag, a 54-star flag, and even a 55-star flag are also available.
Bonus fact: The 13 stripes on the current American flag stand for the 13 colonies that proclaimed their independence from Great Britain in 1776.
